Founder’s Notes

After working for a number of years as an aerospace scientist both in India and here in the USA (and a few years as an information security professional), I decided to call it quits seven years ago. Though I had a Ph.D. in mathematics, and though I was passionate about research, the technical field hadn't given me as much satisfaction as I had hoped. I realized that I wanted to do something down-to-earth that would have a direct, tangible impact upon lifestyles in our community.

Some of the experience that I had gained in the cyber field got me thinking of using the ubiquitous Internet for something completely different. I had seen Indian immigrants in the community struggling to find time to chauffeur their kids to Indian music classes - I had been

one of those parents for several years while my daughter learned Carnatic violin.  I started wondering whether it was possible to bring teachers home through the internet, so that neither parents nor students had to sacrifice two hours of commute for a one hour lesson.

Convincing not only students but also teachers that this was possible was the biggest challenge, and the school started in a humble way. Having overcome those initial hiccups now Geetanjali has 16 teachers and over 100 registered students spread all over the globe.  We have annual online music events, likewise viewable globally, where students not only showcase their talents but also meet other teachers and students just as in a brick and mortar school. At that time  I was the first one to come up with an online music school.

I'm glad I took a chance seven years ago. It's led to an engaging and fulfilling experience!

We’d love to hear from you!

Thanks for your feedback!
